  • In light of the recent controversy involving Quezon City 4th District Rep. Jesus "Bong" Suntay, I've decided to slightly revise https://apolohetiko.blogspot.com/p/atis-isang-komentaryo.html, as I previously used a similar analogy involving sexualized content. Although my work is pedagogical and written strictly within the framework of Catholic moral teaching, I used a real person's name (previously "Cortez") in the example. After careful reflection, I realized this might risk objectification; therefore, I am updating it to a generic "X" to avoid any unnecessary conflict. While archives of the older version of this post may persist, I have updated the content here after prayerful reflection. My goal is to teach the Truth of the Faith without inadvertently compromising the dignity of others through improper examples.

Malaki ang paggalang at pagmamahal natin sa kanila, subalit ang Diyos lamang ang lubos nating iginagalang at minamahal. Pinipintuho natin ang mga Santo/Santa ( dulia, veneration ), habang ang Diyos lamang ang ating sinasamba ( latria, adoration ). Pinipintuho natin sila — alalaong-baga'y ginugunita, pinararangalan, tinutularan, at dinadalanginan — alinsunod sa mga pamamaraan ng pamimintuho na itinatakda o pinahihintulutan ng Simbahan (ang debosyon natin sa kanila'y laging nasa ilalim ng gabay ng Simbahan, hindi ng sariling mga sentimyento lamang), alang-alang sa Diyos na siyang pinagmumulan ng lahat ng kabanalan at karangalang tinataglay nila . Sa ating kapanahunan, ang mga pagtuligsa sa mga banal na imahen ay dinadaan sa mga walang katuturang pagtatanong, pagpaparinig, at pagsasangkalan ng mga piling taludtod sa Biblia na may katusuhang kinakapitan ng mga malisyosong interpretasyon. Hindi nila napagtatanto na noong ika-walong siglo A.D., naging seryosong usapin sa Cristianismo ang mga banal na imahen, anupa't maraming mga Katoliko ang nakaranas ng pag-uusig, maraming mga simbahan ang sapilitang pinasok upang wasakin ang mga imahen at relikya ng mga Santo, at lalo pang lumala ang di-pagkakasundo ng Santo Papa at ng mga Taga-Silangang Simbahan (na humantong sa iskismo ng mga Simbahang Ortodoksa).
